Supporting you

for every new beginning

Hej!

I'm Fanny, a full spectrum doula and birth keeper, based in Walthamstow. I am passionate about all things birth, and a defender of birth rights and informed choice.

Originally from Sweden via a stint in France, I’ve been calling East London home for the past 11 years, where I live together with my partner, our two children, and our furry friend Margaret Scratcher.

My experience of becoming a mother was the most transformative event in my life and reinforced my calling to work within the birth world to support women and birthing people. With my own children, I experienced two widely different births – one hospital birth, and one VBAC at home – and I truly saw how much of a difference informed choice, a belief in yourself and your rights can change the outcome for yourself, your partner and your baby.

I fully support each person in achieving the birth they truly want, and one of my core values is ensuring that anyone I work with feel heard, respected, and listened to, every step of the way.

Fanny gave us holistic and comprehensive support - before, during and after the birth. She provided much-needed reassurance and advice when I needed it, and gave me confidence in advocating for my preferences. It was wonderful to have her walk alongside us on our birth journey

ways to work with me

birth

I offer non-biased, individual support - emotional and practical - to help you explore your options and discover what feels right for you.

Our work centres on you: your hopes, your fears, and how you wish to enter this next chapter. Together, we create a safe, supportive space where any questions can be explored openly and decisions can be made with confidence, so you feel informed, supported, and held throughout.

postnatal

I am passionate about the fourth trimester, and about preparing not only for birth, but for your postpartum period as well. I offer practical and emotional support during this time, shaped around what you and your family need.

This might include space to talk through your birth, support with feeding in whatever form that takes, nourishing meals, or simply being there as you adjust to a new rhythm as new parents.

If you’re considering birth or postnatal support and would like to see if we’re a good fit, feel free to email me and we can chat about how I could best support you.

why Birthhouse?

A person is leaning over a small inflatable hot tub filled with water, with another adult observing attentively. The setting appears to be a cozy indoor space, with pictures and notes on the walls and a kitchen area in the background.

People often ask me where the name Birthhouse came from.

I believe we all carry a house within us. A place that holds our experiences; our memories, our hopes, our fears. Pregnancy and birth ask us to step into that house in a way few other experiences do.

It is an honour to be invited into that experience.

My role isn't to tell you how to birth or what choices to make. It's to walk alongside you, helping you feel informed, find agency and feel confident to make the decisions that are right for you.

Birth is about so much more than how a baby enters the world.

It's about how you feel throughout the experience, how you're spoken to, whether your choices are respected, and whether you leave feeling that your were a part of your experience.

There is no one right way to birth.

I believe every person deserves access to evidence-based information, continuity of care and the space to make informed decisions.

Families often choose to work with me because they want someone who knows their story. Someone who walk alongside them on their journey, understanding their wishes and wants, their worries and what matters most to them.

Continuity of care means you don't have to keep repeating yourself. It means having someone in your corner to help you navigate the maternity system, explore your options and support you throughout your journey.

In today's maternity system, where intervention rates remain high, it's more important than ever to have someone in your corner.

Research shows that continuous support during labour is associated with:

  • Reduced rates of instrumental birth

  • Fewer unplanned caesarean births

  • Reduced use of epidurals and other pain relief

  • Lower rates of intervention

  • Shorter labours

  • Greater satisfaction with the birth experience

But beyond the evidence, it's about feeling safe, seen and supported.

I believe birth is personal, but it's also political.

The way maternity care is organised, the information people are given, whose voices are listened to and whose choices are respected all have a profound impact on birth experiences.

I'm passionate about birth rights, accessible care and reducing inequalities within maternity services. I believe everyone deserves the same standard of care, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender identity or socioeconomic background.

My role isn't to make decisions for you.

It's to make sure you have the information, confidence and support to make them for yourself.

  • “ I simply wouldn’t have had the restorative, healing home birth I longed for without Fanny’s help. The importance of having Fanny, as a champion, an advocate and a research fountain cannot be overstated. She understands how to successfully navigate the maternity system. She was also unwavering in her confidence in my ability to HBAC and know how to push through. I’m so grateful to have had Fanny’s help in my birth journey “

  • “Fanny was excellent. She arrived promptly and was supportive with different techniques and coping strategies. She advocated for us when doctors wanted to do interventions we did not want. She helped me stay calm and I believe that due to her support we avoided another instrumental birth. She made what would have been another overly medicalised birth a positive and empowering experience”

  • “ Fanny provided invaluable post-partum support to my husband and I as we navigated the challenges of triple feeding in the early days after the birth of my daughter. Her wisdom and vast experience around birth, as well as her uplifting nature and all round positivity was exactly what we needed at that time. She helped me feel lighter at a time when I was really struggling - and the encouragement I needed to push ahead with breastfeeding. I would highly recommend Fanny! ”
