Welcome to e17 Birthhouse
Hej!
I'm Fanny, a full spectrum doula and birth keeper, based in Walthamstow. I am passionate about all things birth, and a defender of birth rights and informed choice.
Originally from Sweden via a stint in France, I’ve been calling East London home for the past 10 years, where I live together with my partner, our two children and our cat Margaret.
My experience of becoming a mother was the most transformative event in my life and reinforced my calling to work within the birth world to support women and birthing people. With my own children, I experienced two widely different births – one hospital birth, and one VBAC at home – and I truly saw how much of a difference informed choice, a belief in yourself and your rights can change the outcome for yourself, your partner and your baby.
I fully support each person in achieving the birth they truly want, and one of my core values is ensuring that anyone I work with feel heard, respected, and listened to, every step of the way.
“Fanny gave us holistic and comprehensive support - before, during and after the birth. She provided much-needed reassurance and advice when I needed it, and gave me confidence in advocating for my preferences. It was wonderful to have her walk alongside us on our birth journey”
ways to work with me
birth
I will provide you with non-biased, individualised emotional and practical support, discuss options for your baby’s birth and support you in exploring and creating your birth plan(s).
We focus on you; your hopes, fears and dreams about entering this new chapter in your life. Together, we’ll work together to create a safe space where you both feel confident, informed and empowered. We will work through any questions and feelings around your pregnancy, labour and new life together with your baby.
postnatal
I am passionate about the fourth trimester and the importance of preparing not only for the birth, but also for the postnatal period, and happy to support you with a wide range of things.
This can look like anything from debriefing your birth, to feeding support in whatever form that may be, cooking for you and being there for you, holding space during the postpartum period and supporting you with the new rhythm and dynamics at home.
why choose a doula?
There are lots of potential benefits in hiring a doula and birth supporter, as having continuous support throughout your pregnancy and birth can reduce many risks, like these examples below:
reduced risk of instrumental birth
reduced risk of unplanned cesarean birth
reduced needs for painkillers or epidural
reduced rate of induction
shorter labour
When we enter birth feeling prepared and properly informed, we are able to make informed decisions for ourselves and our baby.
I am passionate about accessible birth care and human rights, and I believe everyone has the right to receive the same standard of care, regardless where or who you are. I believe in a person-centred approach and am a defender of birth rights and informed choice.
In the current maternity system, with steep intervention rates in birth, it’s more important than ever to have someone who can guide you, advocate for your choices, and ensure that your voice is heard.
I work in an inclusive way and welcome women and birthing people of every race, ethnicity and religion, the LGBQTIA+ community, and anyone from marginalised groups.
